PROFESSIONAL INFORMATION

Julio Ichaso is Counsel in charge of the Insolvency and Restructuring Department.

Law degree from the Central University of Barcelona and a member of the Bar since 1990.

He has been a Professor of Procedural Law at the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía (ISDE) and of Insolvency Law on ESADE’s Master’s in Finance.
In addition to his extensive experience in civil and commercial litigation, he has specialised in all matters related to insolvency law, in both insolvency and pre-insolvency proceedings, including refinancing and the litigation arising from such situations, as well as in serving as an insolvency administrator, with particular expertise in complex insolvency proceedings. This includes advising the debtor, the creditor or a third party interested in acquiring assets; court approval of refinancing arrangements and challenges thereto; the classification section; clawback actions; incidents relating to the recognition and classification of claims and contract termination; the purchase and sale of business units; and the liquidation of assets.

In all these legal areas, throughout his career he has regularly worked with foreign and multinational clients across various sectors (including industrial, financial, hospitality, real estate, aeronautical and technology).

Between 2008 and 2020, he was a partner in the Litigation and Insolvency Department of one of Spain’s four largest law firms, where he headed the Insolvency Department.

In 2019, he was recognised as a Notable Practitioner by Chambers and included in the 2020 Best Lawyers’ Guide.

He has delivered numerous training and outreach sessions on insolvency matters at the Barcelona and Madrid Bar Associations, as well as at professional forums and chambers of commerce.
He has contributed as an author to various collective legal works and has published numerous articles in the press and legal journals.
